Prince William and Inova Plan Merger "Accelerating Excellence"

Download Press Release (*.pdf)

The following joint statement was released today by the Inova Health System and Prince William Health System.

Prince William Health System and Inova Health System have reached an agreement in principle to explore a merger between the two not-for-profit groups. A merger will enable Prince William to broaden, enhance and more rapidly implement its plans for expansion and enhancement of facilities and services to meet the needs of one of the nation’s fastest-growing regions. Jointly, Inova and Prince William Health System can address the growing and changing health care needs of the community faster and more efficiently than either organization can achieve alone.

The agreement calls for Inova to invest in excess of $200 million to expand and accelerate the development of multiple, capital-intensive projects not only at Prince William Hospital, but also in Gainesville, Haymarket and other western Prince William County locations.

There is broad agreement by the trustees of both not-for-profit organizations that the proposed merger will guarantee the future of Prince William Hospital as one of Virginia’s finest community hospitals, and will enhance the ability of both organizations to jointly provide high quality, convenient, accessible health care to the rapidly growing communities in Prince William County, Manassas, Manassas Park and the western part of the County.

The theme of the merger is “accelerating excellence” for health care in Prince William County and throughout Northern Virginia. There will be no significant changes in the current staffing of the Prince William facilities, which in recent years have won numerous awards for excellence in patient care and health, wellness and educational programs.

A merger will make the added resources, expertise and financial strength of Inova available to these facilities, while further broadening the extensive health care options available to the citizens of Northern Virginia through the existing Inova Health System, ranked 13 among the nation’s top 100 integrated delivery networks in 2005 by Verispan in their annual survey of Health Systems.

In addition to Inova Fairfax Hospital, which is ranked by US News and World Report as among the nation’s best in such specialties as heart and heart surgery, cancer and gynecology, the Inova System includes the Inova Fairfax Hospital for Children, Inova Alexandria Hospital, Inova Fair Oaks Hospital, Inova Loudoun Hospital, and Inova Mount Vernon Hospital.

Representatives of both organizations will be making presentations to their communities to share the extensive plans for accelerating the growth of services, facilities, technology, and expertise available to the residents of Prince William County.
